A Neighborhood-in-a-Box®

There is a Neighborhood™ where flags wave from front porches, children ride bikes down tree-lined streets and neighbors stop to chat beside their mailboxes. It’s a neighborhood that stirs memories of a simple, peaceful time – while promising even better memories-in-the-making. And every home in that neighborhood has its own character and its own story.

At Design Basics, we’ve created our Neighborhood series to reflect that rich heritage and those timeless values. We’ve focused on three architectural styles currently enjoying tremendous popularity, because they epitomize the quality and warmth of the past.

  • The Traditional style home is most popular throughout the country. The true test of a traditional style home is in detailing that provides a look of enduring quality. That’s why we’ve included double-hung windows, columns, pilasters, corner boards and shutters.

  • Craftsman style homes have an easy, informal air. Authentic Craftsman features used throughout our collection include roof brackets, distinctive window framing and blocky tapered columns, along with a variety of materials, such as split wood shingles, shake siding, brick, stone, slate, stucco and clapboard.

  • The Country French style provides an interesting blend of Old World elegance and casual country comfort. Stucco finishes combined with brick or stone, simple shutters, arched openings and varied roof lines give our homes true Country French charm.

Ranging in size from 1,195 to 2,705 square feet, every Neighborhood home is 50 feet wide or less, easily fitting on today’s narrower lots. Personal touches such as niches, benches, thick-cased openings and built-in bookcases and media walls add interest in the interiors. Open floor plans with special accommodations for technology meet the needs of today’s lifestyles.

More than Charming Home Plans

Our Neighborhood is more than just a collection of great home plans. It’s part of an innovative program for builders and developers called Neighborhood-in-a-Box™ created with Al Trellis of the Home Builders Network. By using the Neighborhood-in-a-Box, entire neighborhoods can be created with only a handful of core designs – but without the “cookie cutter” look.

This is how it works. Builders select any four plans from the collection. Each plan comes with three or more alternate elevations, plus different options and details to further individualize the homes. All of the plans in the neighborhood complement one another in architectural style. This allows builders to build homes more efficiently and economically while creating a varied, yet cohesive neighborhood.

On top of that, the Neighborhood-in-a-Box package includes marketing advice and ready-to-use marketing materials to create flyers, brochures, posters and ads. Supplied electronically, they are easily customized. Finally, the package also provides management tools with spreadsheets to help builders price and manage their project.

The Neighborhood-in-a-Box offers builders the same services an architect, a management consultant and a marketing consultant would provide – at a fraction of the cost.
