Meet The Women

Kim
Kim was a buyer for a national bookstore
chain before she and her husband
started their homebuilding firm in 1995.
They began building one house at a time and later expanded to doing spec and custom-build jobs, along with building
decks and doing remodeling jobs.

Today, they average six homes a year, ranging from $200,000 to $400,000. Kim joined the firm full time in 1997 and handles the firm’s bookkeeping, ordering,
marketing and client contacts.

With three children ranging from one to seven years of age, Kim’s spare time is limited. But she tries to find time to run, bike and read.

Susan
Susan worked in the marketing department of a large shipping company for nine years before tarting her home building firm with one of her former co-workers in 1996. Her partner had previously worked in the lumber business and Susan had contacts in the building industry, as well as the ability to
choose appealing floor plans.

Their first year, they built and sold three houses. Today, they build 20-25 homes a year in the $140,000 to $300,000 range. In addition to spending time on the job sites, Susan works with customers to choose plans and individualize them to fit their needs.

In her spare time, Susan enjoys bowling, reading and spending time with her family.

Dee
Although Dee’s father was a builder,
she took a round-about path to become a builder herself. While raising children and helping her husband run a large wheat farm, she worked as a decorator. After her husband died, she began working for a builder, and at the same time, opened and managed a home for abused women, full time.

Currently, Dee is a real estate agent and has recently incorporated with two builders to form B. W. Homes, a firm that builds four homes year, averaging $180,000 to $225,000.

During her free time, Dee is a passionate
seamstress, who has sewn everything from sport coats and parkas to bed ensembles and leather handbags.
