For
custom luxury builders, personalization, specialization, individualization
of
homes is the key. They don't just want a lot of rooms, the designers
told us, the want "their" rooms
Design Bill Martin of Tulsa, OK says that his
custom luxury buyers have changed. The now are looking for specialized
entertainment
spaces in their homes. "Custom luxury buyers always did
want a lot of rooms, but now they are looking for places such
as huge pool rooms with fireplaces. Probably the biggest design
change for this market has been the request for media rooms with
a built-in, big screen TV, reclined area to sit and not a lot
of natural lighting."
Robert Dame's luxury buyers are looking for an experience in
design. "They are into novelty spaces, wine rooms, humidors,
computer studios for the kids. They also want very individualistic
homes - a certain century in design, or have very odd requests,
such as being able to see the television from the shower. But
that really creates wonderful variety in the architecture that
is designed today. I think some of the most unique and exciting
design comes from these very individualistic requests."
