Courageous Christians
Devotional Stories For Family Reading
by Joyce Vollmer Brown
Courageous Christians is
an oversized (7 ½” x 10”), soft cover book with 180 pages published
by Moody Press. It contains 60 fast-paced stories about men,
women and children with resilient spirits, mountain-moving
faith, goose-bump courage and selfless, sacrificial love. The
subjects are from different parts of the world and different
walks of life, from the past and the present. Each story is
accompanied by a related passage of Scripture and thought-provoking
questions that can be used to generate lively discussions.
The book has been featured
on hundreds of radio stations across the country and by the
national ministry, Joni and Friends. It has also been enthusiastically
endorsed by families who have used it for devotional reading,
homeschoolers, Sunday school teachers, youth leaders and countless
adults.
Joyce comments: “I
don’t know how many times I’ve heard someone ask, ‘Where have
all the heroes gone?’ Maybe heroes actually are in shorter
supply than they were in the past. Or maybe we just don’t hear
about them as much as we once did -- because the media is too
busy focusing on sensational stories and glorifying celebrities
rather than heroes. That’s too bad, because I believe stories
of noble men and women teach us to be noble. A. W. Tozer once
wrote: ‘Next to the Holy Scriptures the greatest aid to the
life of faith may be Christian biography.’ While doing the
research for this book, I noted how often one believer was
dramatically influenced by the life of another. I’m convinced
the stories I’ve included in Courageous Christians will
touch lives, because writing them has changed mine.”
