The change in the master suite over the years
illustrates another trend that many of the designers see in their
markets. For the
sake of generalization, we'll call this trend "self
spaces." These are areas within the home that homebuyers include
as a place to "get away to" or to have some privacy. As
mentioned above, for many homebuyers this area can be a large master
suite with sitting area. But many of the other designers talked
about separate studies, libraries, flex rooms - places that were
separate from the main living area, and meant to function solely
for the individual, or maybe just a few people.
"Buyers are telling us that they really value their time
alone," says Linda Reimer of Design Basics, Inc. in Omaha,
NE. "We always focus on providing a place within the home
that gives buyers a place to go."
